Fertilizer
In an effort to meet the changing needs of our professional lawn care operators and the challenging conditions of South Florida coastal communities, Forestry Resources now stocks two application alternatives.
Much of the industry has been moving towards "slow-release" sulfur coated nitrogen. And now new ordinances are being adopted to strengthen the standards by which fertilizer is being released into our sensitive environment. Our EZ Step by Step assortment of "slow release" fertilizers meet and exceed these trends!
And now we take a dramatic step towards the use of "staged-controlled release" nutrients in a premium brand of fertilizers featuring Nutricote, produced by Florikan E.S.A. - (Environmentally Sustainable Agriculture) Corporation.
Florikan Professional Landscape Fertilizers represents the next evolution of fertilizers. Here's the uniqueness of this product:
- The fertilizer prill is wrapped in a special resin coating, ensuring controlled and precise release of nutrients over the assigned period, (6-month or 1-year)
- Nutrients are made available at a similar rate they are used by turf and plants, thus utilizing the nutrients before leaching occurs
- Improvements in plant color, growth and health are long lasting and matches what growers have been able to produce with successive crops at their nurseries...learn more about Nutricote!
And most importantly...it is an answer to the reduction of excess nitrogen and phosphate runoff that reaches waterways and the Gulf of Mexico, feeding algae blooms and fish kills. That's critical support of Florida's native environment, our way of life, and the enjoyment of those visiting Florida's beautiful and breathtaking coast line.

Match the right product to the right job, and adopt Best Management Practices - (BMPs) that work to protect our native environment!
- Be analytical. Take a soil test BEFORE applying fertilizer.
- Check soil pH and water quality.
- Apply the minimum amount of nutrients as needed by the plant.
- Use fertilizers containing low to no Phosphate and remove uncoated urea Nitrogen.
- Minimize Nitrogen and Phosphate use in the summer rainy season.
- Use a deflector shield and maintain a minimum border of 6 feet from bodies of water.
- Do not apply fertilizer to impervious surfaces. Prevent from entering sewer drains.
- Scout and spot-treat your lawns and landscapes for pests and problems.
University studies throughout the country, including Florida, have shown that properly managed turf grass and landscapes do not significantly contribute to nonpoint source pollution. Pollution occurs when less-than adequate management techniques are used. Developing low-risk irrigation, fertilizer, and pesticide programs, and ensuring that these programs are administered and periodically reviewed, reduces the possibility of nutrient movement off-site.
